9-11 hit us all as a nation. We remember where we were at the exact moment we heard the news, we remember how it felt, we remember all affected and we remember how we responded.
This day is always a day we remember. We are so grateful to be a part of a community where we take the time to pay our respects and do even a small memorial for the day. Our kids attend Pieper HS, as well as the surrounding schools. Last year was our first year participating in this. So powerful. Haven't heard about it? Let me tell you...
Every year, we gather as a community - students, sports, students of the surrounding schools in the area (Stone Oak up to Bulverde), teachers, staff, administrators, friends, family, fire departments, police officers, veterans, active duty. We gather at the football field and we pay our respects. We hear the history, we say a prayer, we have a moment of silence. Then, as the music plays, we hear the names of all that have fallen that day. All of those that lost their lives. While this happens, we start the climb. The 2,200 Stairs, the 110 flights that the firefighters climbed. The fire fighters attend the event in FULL GEAR and climb. We, as a community do our best to do it along with them. It is powerful and something my family and I will forever honor.
Would you join us next year? Not local? How about in your own community?
